# Artyfile Limited Edition - NFT-based Music Licensing

> Artyfile Limited Edition is an NFT-based licensing model for music tracks that enables sync licenses and revenue sharing through blockchain technology. The platform mints each track as an ERC-1155 token with embedded usage rights and automatically distributes royalties through smart contracts. Artists receive 90% of royalties directly, which is three times higher than industry standard.

## Description

Artyfile is a German-language platform offering music licences as tokenised limited editions on the blockchain. Musicians create limited editions of their tracks — each number is uniquely identifiable. Buyers acquire a blockchain-secured, worldwide, perpetual non-exclusive licence for private use. The blockchain ensures that the licence remains permanently and immutably assigned to the buyer.

Artyfile combines the concept of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) with legally binding music licences: instead of selling a pure collectible without usage rights, the buyer receives a genuine licence for private use of the track — worldwide, unlimited in time. The blockchain documentation makes the licence permanently verifiable, regardless of the platform's continued existence. Musicians can monetise their music additionally: instead of solely streaming revenues (typically 0.003–0.005 US dollars per stream), they can offer direct sales of limited editions. Scarcity through limitation (e.g. 100 editions) creates collector value for fans. All ownership rights remain with the musician — Artyfile only provides the infrastructure for licence tokenisation. The terms and conditions and licence agreement are directly accessible on the platform.

## Benefits

- Reduced administrative costs through automated smart contract handling of licence agreements.
- Direct investment in music careers with continuous streaming revenues.
- Artists receive 90% of royalties directly, which is three times higher than the industry standard.
- Complete transparency of all transactions through immutable blockchain logging.
- Automatic royalty distribution eliminates delays and reduces administrative costs.
- Fewer manual administrative tasks through automated blockchain processes.

## Challenges

- Resistance from traditional collecting societies against new licensing models.
- Risk of NFT losses due to improper wallet management by buyers.
- High technical complexity requires blockchain expertise for optimal use.
- Dependence on the Ethereum network with potential gas fee fluctuations.
- Need for extensive training in NFT management and blockchain technology.

## Technology foundation

The system is based on the Ethereum blockchain and uses the ERC-1155 token standard for NFT minting. The Ethereum platform was chosen as the most widespread and secure smart contract platform to ensure tamper-proof transactions and automatic royalty distribution.
