Blockchain-based Video Content Protection and Digital Rights Management
Sector: Tertiary sector · Industry: Publishing · Organisation: Custos Tech · Maturity level: Production
Custos Media Technologies uses patented blockchain technology combined with forensic watermarking to protect media content from illegal distribution. The system marks each video content with unique watermarks and documents these on the blockchain for complete traceability. Over 600,000 films, e-books and documents have already been protected with a 100 percent success rate.

Description
Blockchain video content management protects video content from publishers and studios through tamper-proof fingerprints and smart contract DRM.
Traditional DRM (Digital Rights Management) is centralised and regularly hacked. Blockchain DRM: Each video receives a cryptographic fingerprint (perceptual hash); this hash is anchored on-chain; license agreements are defined as smart contracts (e.g. usage rights for 30 days, only in Germany, max. 3 devices); when playing, the system automatically checks if a valid license exists. Eluvio Content Fabric (Berkeley 2018): decentralised content infrastructure with blockchain DRM for film and TV studios. Practical applications for publishers: e-book licenses, music samples, video tutorials, news archives.
Perspectives
B2B — organisations perspective
Publishers and content producers can digitally and automatically enforce copyrights with blockchain DRM — no legal fees for individual cases, license violations immediately cryptographically verifiable.
