## Description

Blockchain hotel direct booking eliminates expensive intermediary platforms. Booking.com and Expedia charge 15-25% commission — for a medium-sized hotel with 1 million EUR annual revenue via OTAs, that means 150,000-250,000 EUR in commissions.

Blockchain direct booking architecture: hotels publish availability and prices as smart contracts; guests book directly using crypto or fiat; the smart contract holds payment in escrow; payment is released to the hotel upon check-in; cancellation policies are automated. Winding Tree (Zug 2017, discontinued): TUI, Lufthansa, Air France, Swiss and Nordic Choice Hotels piloted the approach — failed due to network effects. Travala.com: active blockchain-based travel marketplace with 2+ million accommodations and Booking.com partnership, crypto payment enabled. Hotel side: direct customers are more profitable — no commission, direct contact for upselling, no dependency on platform rankings.
