## Description

Poltrona Frau and Savio Firmino use digital product passports to create a counterfeit-proof digital twin for their pieces of furniture. Via an NFC tag on the product, customers can access information about origin, materials, manufacturing process and care. The basis for this is the blockchain infrastructure of the Aura Blockchain Consortium, originally founded by major luxury goods companies to make product authenticity verifiable across industries.

Poltrona Frau joined the Aura Blockchain Consortium to introduce digital product passports for its Vanity Fair and Archibald collections, documenting origin, materials, craftsmanship and production processes. Through a so-called User Kit with an integrated NFC tag, end customers can access this information as well as care instructions and after-sales services directly on the furniture. After a pilot phase in 2025, the digital product passport was officially launched in June 2026 for the two mentioned collections, developed in collaboration with Aura and the traceability platform Temera. Savio Firmino, also a member of the Aura Consortium, has reportedly been registering products on a blockchain since 2021 and plans to introduce digital product passports initially for the children's collection Notte Fatata, although a concrete, verified market launch date has not been publicly confirmed. Both projects primarily aim to combat counterfeiting and strengthen customer trust and brand value through traceable product stories. Reliable quantitative figures on cost savings, revenue increases or reduction of counterfeiting have not yet been published in accessible sources.

## Benefits

- Differentiation from competitors through proven product authenticity
- Basis for digital after-sales and service structures
- Possibility to connect to resale and second-hand markets
- Direct access to origin and care information via NFC
- Verifiable proof of authenticity for high-quality furniture
- Potentially higher resale value through documented history
- Verifiable authenticity and counterfeit protection for luxury furniture
- Improved traceability of materials and manufacturing processes
- Central digital access to product information throughout the entire lifecycle
- Strengthening of customer trust and brand value
- Clearer documentation processes for material and manufacturing data
- New areas of expertise in digital product documentation

## Challenges

- Integration of digital product passport processes into existing production and IT systems
- Dependence on external partners such as Temera for the data platform
- Requirement of an NFC-enabled device to read the product information
- Lack of publicly available quantitative figures on ROI or cost savings
- Dependence on the infrastructure and governance of an external consortium (Aura)
- Unclear implementation status at Savio Firmino compared to the concrete launch at Poltrona Frau
- Need for new digital skills for data collection along the supply chain

## Technology foundation

The solution is based on the proprietary blockchain infrastructure of the Aura Blockchain Consortium, which creates digital identities and immutable proof of ownership for physical products. This is complemented by NFC tags integrated into a so-called User Kit on the furniture piece, enabling access to digital product information. Specific details about the underlying protocol, such as Hyperledger or Ethereum, are not mentioned in public sources; however, the blockchain is fundamentally well-suited to store tamper-proof and permanently traceable provenance and ownership data.
