# Blockchain-based Digital Twin in Construction

> This use case describes the theoretical application of blockchain technology for digital twins in construction projects to ensure tamper-proof storage of project data. The solution aims to address problems such as data loss, fragmentation, and lack of traceability of changes in complex construction projects. However, concrete implementation data or verified results are not available.

## Description

Building data is fragmented today: blueprints in the archive, energy certificates with the owner, maintenance logs with the facility manager, insurance documents with the broker. Information is lost during ownership changes.

Blockchain creates the digital building passport: all relevant data — blueprints (as IPFS hash), building permits, material certificates (DGNB, LEED), energy certificates, maintenance logs for lifts/heating/fire protection, ownership chain — are immutably anchored on-chain. When purchasing, the new owner can check the complete history in seconds. ESG relevance: CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) requires public and large companies to report sustainability data of their buildings — blockchain-secured building passports are the natural basis for auditable ESG data. EU building reform: By 2033, all EU buildings must achieve at least energy certificate class E — proof of renovation measures must be documented. Blockchain guarantees the long-term availability of this proof even after ownership changes.
