## Description

Aventus (London) developed a blockchain-based ticketing infrastructure that protects concert and event tickets on the secondary market from counterfeiting. By decentralising the storage of every transaction, organisers can prevent price dumping and scalping, while buyers can verify the authenticity of their tickets at any time. According to Aventus, the system reduces fraudulent tickets by over 90 percent.

Aventus anchors each ticket as a unique token on the blockchain. On resale, price limits and commission rules are enforced via Smart Contract — the organiser sets the maximum markup rate and automatically receives a share of every secondary transaction. Fans can check the full transaction history of their ticket via QR code. The system has been piloted at several major European events and almost completely eliminates the market for counterfeit tickets.

## Benefits

- Organisers gain full control over secondary markets and can generate additional revenue through programmed commissions.
- Customers can independently verify the authenticity of their tickets at any time via the blockchain.
- Blockchain tickets are immutable and counterfeit-proof, completely eliminating fraud.
- Up to 12% of ticket revenues can be saved by preventing fraud.
- Smart Contracts automate sales processes and significantly reduce manual effort.
- Automation through Smart Contracts reduces repetitive tasks and allows focus on strategic activities.

## Challenges

- Integration into existing ticketing systems requires significant technical investment and system changes.
- Scalability and high network fees complicate mass adoption of the technology.
- Extensive training for users and organisers is necessary to understand the complex technology.
- Staff must acquire new technical skills in blockchain technology.
