Description
Blockchain-based software license management solves the fundamental problem of license compliance: companies cannot simply prove which licenses are active and for which devices.
The BSA Software Alliance conducts annual audits — non-compliant use risks significant back payments plus license fees plus fines. Blockchain solution: each license is registered as a token on-chain (with product ID, version, number of authorised seats, duration); when activated on a device, the token is booked by the device; when uninstalled, it is returned; the BSA auditor can verify the complete license history in seconds. NFT licenses: licenses can be traded as NFTs — companies can sell or buy unused licenses without vendor restrictions (second-hand software market, ECJ 2012: resale of software licenses is legal in the EU).
Perspectives
B2B — organisations perspective
IT departments can automatically pass BSA audits with blockchain-based license management, resell unused licenses as NFTs, and demonstrate license compliance without manual SAM inventory.
