Abstract 'The Portal' - Digital Amusement Park
Sector: Tertiary sector · Industry: Theme parks and event venues · Organisation: POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol); Host City Dortmund · Maturity level: Production
Abstract develops 'The Portal' as a digital amusement park that simplifies the complex user experience of existing blockchain games. The solution offers a 'No-Crypto' user interface where users log in via email and automatically receive a custodial wallet. Interaction occurs through fiat-backed $ARCADE tokens on the Abstract Chain, which launched in January 2025 as a consumer-centric blockchain.

Description
Proof-of-Attendance Protocol (POAP) was developed in 2019 and enables organisers to distribute attendance NFTs to visitors. Each NFT is event-specific, dated, and tamper-proof. Abstract Chain (2024) is a new blockchain infrastructure specifically for consumer apps and gamification, building on these concepts and integrating event NFTs into broader community mechanisms.
The Proof-of-Attendance Protocol (POAP) launched in 2019 and has since issued over 100 million event NFTs. The concept is simple: organisers create an event-specific NFT; visitors receive it by scanning a QR code on site or via a link. The NFT is a tamper-proof proof of attendance, dated by the blockchain timestamp. Applications: (1) Community building — POAP holders of certain events gain access to exclusive channels or follow-up events. (2) Loyalty programmes — repeat visitors receive special benefits. (3) Collectible value — limited event NFTs from well-known conferences or concerts have secondary market demand. Abstract Chain (2024, Ethereum Layer-2) positions itself as infrastructure for these consumer blockchain applications: low gas fees, easy onboarding, optimised for gamification and community mechanisms. Abstract Games and similar initiatives use NFT mechanics for event interaction and prize distributions.
Perspectives
B2B — organisations perspective
Event organisers can use POAP and similar systems to distribute attendance NFTs as tools for community building and loyalty programmes: regular visitors are rewarded with exclusive NFT-based benefits.
B2C — consumers perspective
Visitors collect tamper-proof digital mementos of their event attendance — over time this creates a verifiable digital biography of experiences that simultaneously reflects community belonging and collectible value.
Employees perspective
Employees benefit from a simplified introduction to blockchain technology without the usual technical hurdles. The system automates many administrative processes and allows teams to focus on customer service and community management.
Benefits
General
- The no-crypto user interface makes blockchain technology accessible to mainstream users without requiring technical knowledge.
- Three diversified revenue streams through transaction fees, sponsorship, and premium subscriptions create stable business foundations.
- DAO governance enables authentic community participation and leads to user-driven platform improvements.
B2B — organisations
- Companies can reach new target groups while developing innovative revenue streams through blockchain integration.
B2C — consumers
- Users benefit from financial incentives through play-to-earn mechanisms and can actively participate in platform development.
Employees
- The simplified user interface reduces training effort and allows employees to focus on value-adding customer service.
Challenges
General
- Integrating modular blockchain architecture with ZK proofs requires specialised technical expertise and ongoing maintenance.
- The balance between user-friendliness and the benefits of decentralised technology must be carefully calibrated.
B2B — organisations
- Companies must invest in new technology partnerships and train their teams in blockchain-based business models.
Employees
- Employees need to familiarise themselves with new concepts such as DAO governance and token economies.
Technology foundation
The project is based on the Abstract Chain, a consumer-centred blockchain launched in January 2025 and specifically developed to popularise cryptocurrencies. The platform uses a modular blockchain architecture with ZK proofs for scaling and offers a simplified user interface without direct crypto contact for end users.
Implementation examples
Abstract 'The Portal' live implementation
Abstract wanted to eliminate the high entry barriers of existing blockchain games while creating new revenue streams through transaction fees, sponsorship and premium services. The solution aims to attract mainstream users to Web3 technology without overwhelming them with technical complexity.
Abstract has successfully launched a digital theme park with no-crypto UX and DAO governance into live operation.
Abstract developed 'The Portal', an innovative solution to the problem of complex blockchain game experiences. The platform uses a consumer-centred blockchain architecture with email login and automatic custodial wallets. Users interact via fiat-backed $ARCADE tokens, while ZK proofs and modular technology ensure scalability. The system is live and has already implemented 12 community proposals through DAO governance.
The main challenge was simplifying the user experience while maintaining the benefits of decentralised technology. Abstract solved this through custodial wallets, fiat-backed tokens and familiar email-based registration alongside integration of DAO governance for community involvement.
