Blockchain for E-Learning Content
Sector: Tertiary sector · Industry: Continuing education and e-learning · Organisation: EduBlock · Maturity level: Concept
EduBlocks is a blockchain-based platform for e-learning content that solves the problem of copyright violations and insecure content distribution. The platform uses the Ethereum blockchain with its own ERC-20 token called EDBX for transactions between students, educators, and content creators. The system is currently in the development phase as a student semester project and promises increased security and transparency in educational content trading.

Description
EduBlocks is a student project (6th semester minor project on blockchain/smart contract applications in education), documented on GitHub. The project addresses a concrete use case: secure, decentralised access to digital learning materials through blockchain technology.
The problem with digital learning materials: universities and e-learning platforms must operate expensive central servers; access rights are managed in vulnerable databases; in case of hacker attacks or server failures, the entire learning operation is affected. EduBlocks architecture: learning materials (PDFs, videos, interactive content) are stored on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) — a decentralised, content-addressed storage network; the content hash of each material is stored on the Ethereum blockchain; smart contracts manage access rights: when a student enrols in a course, they receive access to all course materials via a smart contract; enrolment is blockchain-documented. Academic relevance: EduBlocks as a 6th-semester project shows that blockchain educational applications can be prototypically implemented even without million-dollar investments — an important proof of the technology’s accessibility. Combined with blockchain-based certificates, this results in a fully decentralised educational infrastructure.
Perspectives
B2B — organisations perspective
Educational institutions and e-learning platforms can provide course materials decentrally and securely through blockchain-based access rights management — enrolment automatically triggers material access, no central database management needed.
B2C — consumers perspective
Learners benefit from a more secure and transparent e-learning environment where they can acquire authentic content. Additionally, they receive cryptocurrency rewards for their learning activities, creating extra motivation.
Employees perspective
Employees in educational companies must familiarise themselves with new blockchain-based workflows and develop skills in handling cryptocurrencies. At the same time, content creators gain more autonomy and direct control over their educational content.
Benefits
General
- Blockchain technology provides immutable records of copyrights, thereby preventing content piracy.
- Smart contracts automate payment processes and significantly reduce administrative effort.
- The decentralised structure eliminates intermediaries and enables direct transactions between content creators and users.
B2B — organisations
- Companies can implement their own token-based reward systems while retaining full control over their educational platform.
B2C — consumers
- Learners receive verifiable certificates and can additionally benefit from their further education through cryptocurrency rewards.
Employees
- Content creators receive fair and transparent remuneration through automated smart contract payments.
Challenges
General
- The technical complexity of blockchain technology requires specialised developers and extensive user training.
- The scalability of the Ethereum blockchain could lead to performance issues as the number of users increases.
B2B — organisations
- Companies must make significant investments in blockchain expertise and infrastructure before they can use the technology in production.
Employees
- Employees must familiarise themselves with completely new technical concepts and learn to handle cryptocurrencies.
Technology foundation
The solution is based on the Ethereum blockchain with a specially developed ERC-20 token called EDBX for secure transactions. This technology is particularly well suited for e-learning content, as smart contracts can automatically enforce copyrights and enable transparent payments between content creators and users.
Implementation examples
EduBlocks E-Learning Marketplace
The project addresses the challenges of copyright infringement and insecure content distribution in the e-learning sector. Blockchain technology aims to create a more transparent and secure educational platform.
EduBlock is developing a blockchain-based e-learning platform with its own ERC-20 token for secure transactions. The platform is currently in the development phase as a student semester project.
EduBlock implements an Ethereum-based e-learning platform that provides an online marketplace for students, educators and content creators. The system uses its own ERC-20 token called EDBX for all transactions and offers features such as course publication, secure purchase of educational content and cryptocurrency rewards for students. The technical implementation is carried out with professional development tools such as Truffle CLI, Ganache GUI and Metamask for wallet management.
The solution combats content piracy through immutable blockchain records and builds trust through smart contract-based transactions. At the same time, fair remuneration of content creators is ensured through automated payment systems.
